whats the purpose of the restart button if its function is the same as the play button

edit 2: have different pause menus are front screen menus. harder to implement, but easier to read

Ah that's just because in the pause menu (esc) they have different behaviours, play being a "resume" button and restart actually starting from the beginning. Aaaand turns out we just used the same menu again for the main menu lol.

We could do this but it would take away a lot of the nuance of the analogue control of the mouse and some of the features in the game would not work anymore, as they're mouse-position based.

Edit: Clicking is never required, except if you really want to close the popup, but even then it would be a left-click. But yeah touchpad is going to give you a disadvantage vs a proper mouse.
